#Independence was a poetry showcase held in Abuja that brought together the best of Nigerian poets known for their high-quality work and an authentic indigenous band under a serene evening of lights, friendships, and stories. The African (Ankara/Kaftan) themed dress event unraveled the stories that told the tale of our past, the audacity of our dreams, and actions that continued to shape our country. From relationships, religion, gender, and feminism to politics and activism, Nigeria was depicted as a boiling pot of generational differences.
Held at Adams Pages Abuja, #Independence had poets such as Hauwa Saleh, Qalbsaleem Muhammad, Abdulbasit Adamu, Aisha Zanna, Aisha Bello, Amrah Aliyu, Hader Otaki, Khalifa Muhammad Esq, Habiba Bobi, Hauwa Shaffii Nuhu, Suleiman Hassan Gimba, among a host of many others. The Showcase was graciously supported by Adams Pages and the Yasmin El-rufai Foundation.
